Still works with Windows 10 in 2018, sort of1/3/2018 6:40:01 PM
Pros: It seems to do okay on the default Windows 10 wifi drivers. That surprises me, considering this was made for Win98/ME/2000 and patched for compatibility with WinXP.
Cons: I'm getting everyone else's problem: sporadic connection drops.
Other Thoughts: I don't think I'd buy this in 2018. I don't know if you even can, outside of buying cheap old systems that happen to have this in them. But if you have this and are wondering if you can slot it into your more modern Win7/8/10 system with a spare PCI slot, the answer is surprisingly yes.
Ownership: more than 1 year
Can not even get a driver without payment8/29/2012 6:58:19 PM
Pros: Was a good adapter.
Cons: Can't get the driver although discontinued
Other Thoughts: The support for this adapter is terrible. I wish I could give it zero stars.
Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Will connect to internet
Cons: -Drops signal periodically
-Weak signal strength if you are more than 15 feet away from router
-Driver is garbage, will blue screen you randomly. Sometimes once a day, sometimes once a week, sometimes more than 10 times a day no matter if you're browsing on the internet, or just have it connected and watching a movie... Netgear provided an update to the driver and said it would resolve the problem, but that was not the case
-The only way to run this wireless card reliably that I've found is to go outside of Netgear's support and use Atheros drivers, which should never need to be done if you are paying a company money for a product.

Other Thoughts: After putting up with these periodic blue screens for 3 days in a row every hour to hour and a half, let alone the accumulated bsod's over the 8 months I've had it, I broke down and bought a different adapter card. I would recommend you save yourself the hassle and funds and just go with a different adapter
Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Connects to internet signal
Cons: Drops connection randomly. Driver software is horrible. Frequent 'blue screen of death's due do bad driver. Netgear itself will not release a new driver for this card. I am running on SP2 and get frequent crashes at any time when I am trying to web browse. Anything you do that will be reasonably high bandwith will cause this card and driver to crash. There are no updates to the driver to solve these problemes
Other Thoughts: The card does connect to wireless and will provide you with wireless service but will randomly 'blue screen' your computer (as far as ive experienced with XP SP2) when trying to do anything high bandwidth, ie: streaming video content and playing reasonable bandwidth games.
I would not recommend this wireless card to anyone.

Precarious Install; Netgear Only10/13/2009 11:08:12 AM
Pros: I've used Netgear Wireless products for 6 years and they always work IF you use them with other Netgear products (routers, access points, etc). Once installed, this card had worked very well with Windows XP.
Cons: I have two of these cards. The first install went well because I followed the instructions to the letter. The second went horribly wrong because installed the card and software in the wrong order. Once that happened I could never get the installation software to work - it would launch and die. Support forums mentioned this problem but that Netgear had not provided a fix. So I had to reinstall XP - a HUGE pain. So beware when installing this card.
Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: It DOES work, and has stayed working fine for about 6 months now. no problems at all. And I guess Netgear makes some decent stuff.
Cons: The software isnt that great, but You can just install it and choose to work with windows instead of the software it comes with. My main problem with it is, rangeplus my ***. I have horrible connection about 50 feet away from my router, and I thought it had been my router this whole time. I upgraded my router and did some more speedtests and everything. Come to find out, its this adapter that sucks. I brought my friends laptop up to where my computer is, in the same exact place, his laptop gets 80% connection while this thing gets 35...
Its also way overpriced. You can find great 11n adapters way cheaper than this thing. Dont buy this.

Other Thoughts: I had always been hesitant to get USB adapters, because I knew USB is slower than PCI. But Im glad I got one. USB is theoretically 480 megabits per second, and the fastest routers out there right now would bottleneck your internet at 300 anyway. Get a USB adapter and save the PCI slot for a good sound card or something. Cant believe I hadnt bought a sound card for 6 months because this stupid thing was in the way.
Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: Netgear
Cons: Bought this product from Best Buy to replace my failing Dynex Enhanced Wireless Card..After installing this card I could not get it to connect to my N router not 10 FT away via the NETGEAR launcher...so I opted to use the windows..connects and holds a connection when on the web....but during an online game like wow I am constantly Disconnected.....called Tech Support at (888-NETGEAR) guess what (THERE JUST AS BAD AS DELL) nothing gets handled...returning it today and ive only had it for 3 days
Other Thoughts: EVGA 780i
EVGA 9800GT
500 GB WD
4G OCZ Reaper
EVGA 9800GT
500 GB WD

Ownership: less than 1 day
Pros: works with back track and has an atheros chipset and It is found at boot up and injection works great
Cons: price

About Wireless LAN Driver:
Windows OSes usually apply a generic driver that allows systems to recognize the wireless component. However, in order to use all available features of this hardware, you must install the appropriate drivers.
Enabling the wireless card allows systems to read chipset information and manufacturer name, as well as connect to a network without using an Ethernet cable.
Updating the driver version can resolve different compatibility issues, fix related errors spotted throughout the product’s usage, add support for new operating systems, improve transfer speed, as well as bring various other changes.
As for applying this release, the installation steps should not pose to much of a challenge since each producer intends to make the procedure as easy as possible: just download the package, run the setup, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Bear in mind that we do not recommend you install this release on OSes other than the specified ones even though other platforms might also be suitable. Also, when the update has finished, do perform a restart to ensure that all changes take effect properly.
Therefore, if you wish to apply this package, click the download button, and setup the wireless card on your system. Moreover, if you want to stay “updated one minute ago,” check with our website as often as possible.
